Goal progress: March 2019

It feels like time goes by faster with each passing month. It feels like I just wrote my last progress update. Yet we’re a quarter of the way through 2019 and quickly approaching the half-way mark of April.

I celebrated my birthday a few weeks ago. It’s good fortune on timing. It falls neatly at the end of Q1, signaling a sort of changing-of-the-seasons. We roll into spring, and I can’t think of a better time for reflecting.

So where are things, since my last check-in?

Goal progress for March

Reading one book per month: Doin’ well. Finished Leonardo: The First Scientist. Started on Storycraft by Jack Hart, and I’m nearly finished.

Publish something every week: Mostly on track. March started with my February goals check-in, followed by a summary of notes from Company of One and a compilation of freelancer tips from WordCamp Miami 2019. The latter lives on the GoDaddy blog, where I intend to do more writing in the coming months.

Spend more time with family: Blended work, road trips, and family time last month. The recent California rain held off long enough to take a couple drives through Sonoma, Napa, and Monterey. We even managed to squeeze in some gallery visits around San Francisco.

Take road trips and share the experience: Road trips yes, sharing no. Honestly I don’t feel compelled to bust out my phone and snap a picture every time I go somewhere, unless I’m going out with the intent to take photos.

Return to a healthy lifestyle: Probably my weakest point last month. Been intensely focused on work and haven’t kept up the exercise regimen. But bike season is around the corner, and I’ve got some heavy riding ahead. I’ve renewed my gym membership to get back into the routine I followed when I was in better shape.

Coding courses: Haven’t done a damn thing with DataCamp yet. Work in progress.

Creative work: Still drawing, not sharing. Workin’ on this, too.

Record and publish one podcast per week: Started a new podcast series with my friend and colleague Adam Warner. We’ve both dabbled in podcasting before and this felt like a good opportunity to collaborate. We’re in the middle of recording our first episodes. More to come on that.

Learn audio & video production: Ties into the above.

Get back into gaming & streaming: I’m over the gaming. Just not that into it anymore. I’m still interested in streaming, but I’m going to roll that into the other things I’m doing, e.g. the podcast and creative work.

Monthly newsletter: Will have more to share next month.

What else is going on?

I’m still fundraising for the Ride to Conquer Cancer! Proceeds go to the Princess Margaret Cancer Center. Head to my rider page if you’d like to contribute. If you’d like to join me on the ride, sign up to become a rider.
